강좌소개

This lecture will look at the history of the Goreyo-in, which is nearly 130 years old, by dividing it into ten themes. In the modern and contemporary history of Korea, the deportation of Korean people in the Maritime Province of Siberia in 1937, which is considered a tragedy for the Korean people, was virtually forgotten due to the cold war system. However, as the Soviet Union fell in 1991, the history related to the deportation of Goreyo-in could be brought to light in earnest. The history of the Goreyo-in can be divided into five stages. First, after Cheoljong, the 25th king of the Joseon Dynasty, ascended to the throne, the Andong Kim clan’s power politics led to the disorder of the three political affairs, and Hamgyeong-do peasants who suffered economic pain migrated to work in the Maritime Province of Russia, crossing the Dumangang River. Second, Joseon people who migrated to work in Maritime Province gradually increased, and with Japan’s forced occupation of Joseon, they began to settle in Russia. Third, Korean people who had successfully settled in Maritime Province due to their hard work were deported to Central Asia by Stalin in 1937. Fourth, Korean people deported to Central Asia called themselves Goreyo-in, and they were able to settle there again successfully. Fifth, with the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991, Central Asian Goreyo-in relocated to Korea and are working hard for their final successful settlement.
