On December 24th, Inha Center for International Studies(ICIS) held an international academic conference in Fukuoka, Japan, in collaboration with the Kyushu University's Korean Research Center for the Kyushu Korean Research Forum and theme "the Current Status and Challenges of the Spread of Korean Studies in the Kyushu Region." This event was meaningful in that it has established an international academic network with the support of Academy of Korean Studies and increased the cooperation between the Korean research community in the Kyushu region and Inha University. At the opening ceremony, the project was introduced under the theme of "The Current Status and Tasks o the Spread of Korean Studies: Focusing on Inha University's K Academic Diffusion Project," starting with a congratulatory speech by Yoshinori Kaseda, a professor at Ritsumeikan Asia-Pacific University. In the first session, an international academic conference on Korean Studies in Korea-Japan Cooperation: Current Status and Direction of Development was held. Professor Kim Sung Jin of Duksung Women's University was in charge of the entire society, and a total of three presentations and discussions were held. Several domestic and foreign researchers, including Professor Song Seok Won of Kyung Hee University, Professor Ko Sun Kyu of Fukushima College, and Professor Kim Soo Won of Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, participated as presenters to share academic insights. In the following discussion session, Professor Yoshihiro Ogata of Fukuoka University, Daisuke Ikeda of Kyushu University, and Ryosuke Mizouchi of Kitakyushu University commented on the presentation, followed by a question-and-answer session.
In the second session, an international academic conference was held on Kyushu (regional) society and culture: the next generation of tasks. Professor Tsujino Yuki of Kyushu University took the lead of the entire session, and a total of three presentations and discussions took place in turn. Several domestic and foreign researchers, including Professor Yoshinobu Shinzato of Nagasaki University of Foreign Studies, Professor Kaoru Izumi of Kyushu University, and Professor Shin Myung Jik of Kumamoto Gakuen University, participated as presenters to share academic achievements. In the following discussion session, Lee Seung Jae, a research professor and Lee Won Dong, a full-time researcher at Inha University, Yang Min Ah at Chung-Ang University, commented on the presentation and discussed practical problems and solutions. In addition, on December 23rd, a day before the academic event, all people visited the Nishiniphon Newspaper, a media company representing Japan's Kyushu region, which is geographically close to Korea. Through this, we discussed effective methodologies for promoting and spreading Korean studies in the Kyushu region, and strengthening cooperative relations between ICIS and Nishiniphon Newspaper.
