On July 18, 2025, Kim Jae Young, a researcher at the K-Academic Diffusion Research Center at Inha University, visited Van Lang University in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and delivered a special lecture on the topic of Global Korean Studies to Vietnamese students.
The hour-and-a-half lecture focused on not only communication theory and K-MOOC courses, but also the potential for spreading Korean Studies through the lens of cross-cultural understanding and public diplomacy. Around 50 students actively engaged in the Q&A session.
Following the lecture, Professor Tony of Van Lang University facilitated a discussion. Students explored the websites of the K-Academic Diffusion Research Center, K-MOOC, and related YouTube channels by scanning a QR code provided in the distributed pamphlet. In particular, the global case of K-Pop Demon Hunters was introduced to illustrate the impact of cultural identity and diplomacy, emphasizing how synergy can arise when individual creativity and empathy are combined. Students majoring in communication were also guided on specific ways to broaden their knowledge about Korea through K-MOOC courses.
Founded in 1995, Van Lang University is a leading private institution in Ho Chi Minh City and actively promotes international exchange and university-industry collaboration with Korea. This special lecture provided an opportunity to spark interest in Global Korean Studies in southern Vietnam and foster sustainable learning.
The K-Academic Diffusion Research Center plans to continue expanding cooperation with Vietnamese universities and will strive to promote public diplomacy through the K-Academic initiative.
