Director Lee Jean Young of the K-Academic Diffusion Research Center at Inha Center for International Studies (ICIS) participated in the International Conference on Korean Studies hosted by Ocean University of China (Qingdao) from Friday to Saturday, November 8 to 9, 2025. During the event, he introduced the K-Academic Diffusion Project and K-MOOC courses to Korean Studies Scholars and researchers in China and carried out dissemination activities.

The conference brought together about 60 participants, including more than 40 assistant-professor-level scholars of Korean Studies from universities across China. Director Lee delivered a one-hour demonstration lecture, presenting the five K-MOOC courses developed under ICIS’s K-Academic Diffusion Project. Many Chinese professors expressed positive views on the academic utility of the Korean Studies course content, stating that they would “use the K-MOOC materials themselves or introduce them to their graduate students.”

The program began with a welcome dinner on Friday evening, followed by a full day on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. of plenary sessions and panel presentations, and concluded with an official banquet. Professor LI HAIYING (Department of Korean Language, Ocean University of China) hosted the event; she and her research team expressed strong alignment with the aims of the K-Academic Diffusion Project and indicated interest in future collaboration and joint initiatives.

The conference also expanded cooperative networks with key researchers and institutions, including Peking University (China), the University of Queensland (Australia), Pukyong National University (Korea), and Southwest University (China). In addition, Associate Professor Wang Jiajia (王佳佳), Wuhan University China Institute of Boundary and Ocean Studies, noted that five universities in central China have jointly applied for a “Seed Program for Korean Studies.” She suggested that similar to developments in Japan, a region-centered Korean Studies dissemination model may emerge in China an encouraging signal for linking the K-Academic Diffusion Project with evolving Korean Studies network in China.

Through participation in the International Academic Conference held at Ocean University of China (Qingdao) strengthened the practical foundation for substantive exchanges with Korean Studies researchers in China and confirmed the potential for the international dissemination of K-MOOC–based Korean Studies education. Building on these outcomes, the K-Academic Diffusion Project Team at the Inha Center for International Studies will deepen cooperation with overseas academic partners to support the continued diffusion of Korean Studies and the formation of a collaborative scholarly community.
