On November 21, the Rootporter Team of the K-Connectors 3rd Cohort operated an open booth titled “World to Root” in the area near the back gate of Inha University, targeting enrolled students as well as members of the general public. The program was designed as a participatory booth to raise awareness and enhance understanding among Inha University students regarding the migration history of Koryo-saram (ethnic Koreans from the former Soviet Union) and overseas Koreans policies, while also providing a space for both domestic and international students to share their roots and identities.

The booth was structured as a three-stage experiential program. In the first stage, participants learned foundational information through panels summarizing key facts about Koryo-saram and overseas Koreans. In the second stage, participants selected quizzes of varying difficulty levels—beginner, intermediate, or advanced—to test their understanding of the material. The quizzes covered a wide range of topics, including the migration history of Koryo-saram, changes in overseas Koreans policies, and the current status of overseas Korean communities. Prizes were awarded according to quiz difficulty, encouraging active and enthusiastic participation.

In the final stage, participants were invited to write down their thoughts on either “perceptions of Koryo-saram” or “opinions on overseas Koreans policies” and post them on a shared board. This activity allowed participants to move beyond passive information intake, express their personal views, and engage in open communication as diverse perspectives became visually represented in a shared space.

The activity attracted participants from diverse backgrounds, highlighting the thematic relevance and broader significance of the booth. The participation of multicultural members within the university community naturally drew attention to issues surrounding Koryo-saram and overseas Koreans, while offering a student-led opportunity to explore contemporary challenges facing Korean society, including migration, identity, and multicultural coexistence.

Moving forward, the Rootporter Team plans to continue organizing a variety of programs aimed at improving awareness and disseminating information related to overseas Koreans. Through these initiatives, the team seeks to further engage the university community in activities that promote understanding of the world through shared roots. Updates on the program and related online content will be continuously shared via the team’s official Instagram account, @inha_rootpoter.
