K-Connectors 3rd Cohort, Team Injeolmi Conducts Program

at Bupyeong Multicultural Family Support Center

On October 25, Team Injeolmi of the 3rd cohort of the K-Connectors conducted the program at the Bupyeong Multicultural Family Support Center, targeting elementary school students from multicultural families. The program, inspired by the concept of a Book Bar, is a story-based social reading program using traditional folktales to foster cultural understanding and empathy.

The first session focused on the Korean folktale “Simcheongjeon.” Those students who participated learned the proverb, ‘A flower will bloom on a stone with earnest filial piety’ and its cultural significance. They then took part in a hands-on activity making lotus lanterns, symbolizing the lotus that Simcheong was reborn into, and enjoyed traditional Korean snacks such as scorched rice tea and yakgwa, experiencing Korean culture firsthand. Through these activities, students discovered cultural commonalities and formed meaningful emotional connections.
The program is designed to help multicultural youth recognize their cultural backgrounds as valuable assets. Students introduced folktales from their parents’ countries to their peers, reinterpreting their heritage as a source of pride. Additionally, through hands-on activities based on Korean folktales, participants were directly engaged with traditional culture, deepening their understanding, identifying shared cultural elements, and fostering emotional bonds.

Team Injeolmi will continue collaborating with the Bupyeong Multicultural Family Support Center to offer Korean Studiesbased programs for elementary students from multicultural families. The program runs biweekly from October through December, with each session centered around a new traditional folktale and featuring a variety of activities. Updates and related content will also be shared online through their Instagram account (@injeolmi_inha) to promote their activities.
