On October 11th, 2024, the K-Academic Diffusion Research Center held the 4th Year, 2nd Colloquium under the theme "Exploring Directions for Korean Consular Policy in the Global Era" as a part of the 'Identity Politics Series.’
The colloquium began with an opening address by Director Lee Jean-Young of the Inha Center for International Studies and a congratulatory speech by Hong Seok-in, the government representative in charge of consular affairs for overseas citizen protection. The event was divided into two sessions, providing participants with a space for various presentations and discussions.
The first session was moderated by Lee Jung-Gwan, former Ambassador for Overseas Koreans and Consular Affairs. The presentations included:
• Han Dong-Man, former Ambassador for Overseas Koreans and Consular Affairs, on "Strengthening Bilateral and Multilateral Consular Cooperation."
• Professor Lee Seokwoo from Inha Law School on "Legal Policies and State Practices of Consular Matters in Asia: Selected Aspects"
• Director Lee Jean-Young of the Inha Center for International Studies on "Politicization and Securitization of Consular Issues in International Relations.“
The subsequent round-table discussion was led by Director Lee Jean-Young, with all presenters including government representative Hong Seok-in, former Ambassador for Overseas Koreans and Consular Affairs Lee Sang-Jin, former Director of the Overseas Koreans Foundation Choi Dong-Jun, and Research Professor Lee Seung-Jae from the Inha Center for International Studies participating as discussants.
