The K-Academic Expansion Research Center at Inha University visited the Center for Korean Studies at Kyushu University in Japan on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, to review the operation of K-MOOC-based regular courses and conduct an on-site demand survey. Based on the MOU signed between the two institutions in October 2025, both organizations have continued to deepen academic and educational exchanges, resulting in the opening of the regular course “Introduction to Korean Studies” at Kyushu University in April 2026.
The course utilizes re-edited K-MOOC lecture videos produced by the Center, incorporating Japanese subtitles according to the lecture plans of local faculty members. It is operated in an omnibus format in which different professors participate in each session. A key feature of the course is the adoption of a so-called “blended learning” approach (“Kyushu Model”), which combines foundational learning through digital video content with in-person supplementary lectures by professors. On this occasion, Assistant Professor Yuka Yamaguchi of the Center for Korean Studies at Kyushu University conducted a lecture using the course “Korean Society and Migration,” originally produced by Professor Hye-kyung Lee of Pai Chai University.
Through this visit, the Center observed a class attended by a total of 51 students, including 49 undergraduate students and 2 graduate students, confirming the strong interest in Korean Studies in Japan. In addition, surveys were conducted among students to collect feedback on content satisfaction and learning needs. During meetings with local faculty members, both sides discussed plans to further advance the operation of the “Kyushu Model” based on the survey results, while continuing efforts to develop localized educational strategies and improve lecture quality. The Center also plans to actively expand this model to other regions in the future.
